Just 30 minutes a week can help a student feel supported, encouraged, and connected.

A mentor is a caring and supportive adult who encourages, guides, and inspires students as they grow and thrive. Mentors build meaningful connections by listening, offering encouragement, and helping young people recognize their strengths and build confidence.

You do not need to be an expert — simply being a consistent, positive presence can make a lasting impact.

The Forsyth County Schools Mentoring Program follows the FCS school calendar. Mentors are asked to meet with their mentee for at least 30 minutes each week throughout the school year.

The VEX Robotics Support Committee is a dedicated team of volunteers committed to enhancing the experience and success of our student robotics teams. This committee plays a vital role in the following areas:

This committee is ideal for parents, guardians, and community members who are passionate about STEM education and eager to support students in a hands-on, meaningful way.

A guest speaker is someone invited to share their knowledge, experiences, or expertise with students to enhance learning beyond the textbook. They often work in a specific profession or have a unique perspective related to the subject being taught. Guest speakers provide real-world insights, answer student questions, and help connect classroom lessons to practical applications. Their role is to engage students, inspire curiosity, and bring new energy and ideas into the classroom environment.

A mystery reader is a surprise guest who visits a classroom to read a book aloud to students, often as part of a reading or literacy program. Their identity is kept secret until the moment they arrive, adding an element of excitement and anticipation. Mystery readers are usually parents, family members, school staff, or community volunteers. This fun activity encourages a love of reading, builds classroom community, and gives students the chance to enjoy stories read by different voices and personalities.

Bringing in staff recognition treats is a thoughtful way to show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of school staff. These treats—such as snacks, desserts, drinks, or small goodies—are shared during breaks or placed in common areas to surprise and uplift staff members. Whether celebrating a special occasion or simply recognizing everyday efforts, these gestures help boost morale, strengthen team spirit, and create a positive and supportive work environment.

When a business hosts a spirit night for Whitlow Elementary School, it partners with the school to create a special event where families, staff, and supporters are encouraged to visit the business on a designated date and time. In return, the business donates a portion of the evening’s sales—usually a percentage—back to Whitlow Elementary. This is a fun and easy way for the school community to come together, support a local business, and raise funds for school programs, activities, or classroom needs. Everyone wins: the school benefits financially, the business gains customers, and families enjoy a night out while supporting their school.

Help provide students in grades K-5 a community-based experience by sponsoring a field trip. These include industry tours, feeder school pathway visits, or nearby historical sites. Please respond to this need if you are able to assist!
